The spirit is a seal or sign of the new covenant, which is the act that God did through Jesus the Christ. The church received the Holy Spirit on the day we call Pentecost, which was a sign of the new covenant. The Holy Spirit came down to give power for the work of God in the lives of those who believed. We might say that the Spirit empowers us for the work of the ministry. We receive the Holy Spirit when we begin our journey with God, whether this is us going to church or studying Scripture; God's spirit moves us to enjoy and have passion for the things of God. We receive the Spirit by God's grace and mercy as we seek Him, actually it's God's spirit that draws us to seek God. Being full of the spirit is a once and forever event, you can't lose the filling of the spirit. If you think you lost the spirit, I would question whether you had the spirit to being with. We all grow in the spirit as we seek God, some have glorified the spirit, but we were taught to glorify the Father. Paul encouraged and taught us to live by the Spirit and walk by the spirit, what does this mean? Is there a difference between living by the spirit and walking by the spirit. 1 Cor 12:13 says that we are baptized into one spirit and in one body, is there another baptism or more power than when the spirit moves you to focus on God? Is there a more elite group of Christians; hyper-christians? Or is this just growing in the spirit, kinda like a balloon every being full and stretching the balloon skin? We live, we learn to seek and glorify God for his mercy and grace that allows us to leave our depravity and do good for his name sake...
